Everything had finally started to calm down, ever since the earthquakes had caused so much damage and deaths things were quiet. Town was quiet. Hell most of the town had hightailed it out as soon as they could. Not Gareth's family though, not with how stubborn his mom could be. Between everything that was being said about Hellfire and Eddie specifically she seemed to dig her heels in. She wasn't' budging just because a ton of people where giving into hysterics. She had grown up in a big city and moved out to Hawkins with her first husband, Gareth's dad, she wasn't going to let some earthquakes and 'religious hacks' scare her.
She was also one of the few people who refused to believe that Eddie Munson or Hellfire had anything to do with the deaths that had happened. She had known the guys since he was a kid, of course she didn't think he was capable of murder.
So that was why Gareth ended up returning the next year to what was left of Hawkin's High. Sure it wasn't much but his mom had insisted. It was quiet and for the most part people just tried to get back to some sort of normal, though mostly they avoided anyone who wore a Hellfire shirt. It might have been in bad taste but Gareth wasn't about to stop. It was his friends and his club, of course he was going to still fly his colors.
It's after school that Gareth makes his way to one of the art rooms, determined to actually get some peace and quiet to sketch or ink something without people staring at him all the time.
That is until he hears music coming from his usual little hiding spot. Raising an eyebrow he pushes the door open, ready to tell whoever it is off...only he doesn't get the chance to because what he's met with is some kid he doesn't recognize at first sitting and painting while blasting....is that The Clash?
Really?
"Your taste in music sucks." He manages to time it perfectly in the lull between two songs, standing with his arms crossed and arching an eyebrow at the boy.

Glancing over at the painting he smirks. "And if you game half as good as you paint...you might help knock him down a notch or two."

Date: 2022-09-23 07:16 am (UTC)Plucking up the stick again he dipped it into the ink before moving to make a couple more lines, defining the ears and some bits of armor and muscles. He didn't even have this guys name but he was already pretty happy to have met someone with like interests. Someone who he hadn't met before...which was weird because it was Hawkins.
"So what made your family move to Hawkins? Not exactly the greatest town ever...especially not lately."

Some of the lines don't seem to connect but they do still imply a line that continues and connects somewhere else.
"So...favorite artist, go."

"Depends on the subject matter. Vallejo's great for creatures, Burroughs for dynamic work, Frazetta for full scenes." And the influence on his own work is extremely obvious, with that out there.

Date: 2022-09-24 04:53 am (UTC)"Yeah the influence definitely shows, it's good." He smirked a bit. "Haven't dabbled much in painting other than a little watercolor here or there, most of my work is either pencil, pen, or ink like this." He motions at the picture that is probably about half finished. He lets it dry a bit before grabbing a colored ink that is fairly translucent to color things with.
The first thing he uses is a green, filling in the skin as he does so and letting some of the black mix in in places.

Date: 2022-09-24 06:33 pm (UTC)Setting aside his own work to let some of the stuff dry more, Gareth turned and watched Will, quietly taking in the others techniques and watching the painting come to life.
"So, are you and your family staying in town with all the crazy shit happening? I was thinking about trying to be here more often to work on stuff...when I'm not at game or practice. Hope you don't mind the company."

Date: 2022-09-24 11:01 pm (UTC)"Yeah, we're gonna be here for the foreseeable future, I think. I'm starting work soon so we can keep up on bills and stuff while my mom takes care of stuff around the house and my brother looks at college options. He was gonna go to a local community college where we were but we had to come back so that's what he's looking into now."

Date: 2022-09-26 04:13 am (UTC)"Well, your mom must be as stubborn as mine. She refuses to leave just because some 'religious kooks'. Or at least that's what she says." He shrugs, watching but mostly staying out of the way and even starts to quiet down a bit more so Will can focus on his work since he seemed so dialed in.
"What sort of work are you looking at? Not much around these days I guess."

Date: 2022-09-26 02:01 pm (UTC)"Yeah, mom's the type that refuses to run no matter what. She doesn't believe in the whole Satan-worshipping thing. Like...she only believes in what she's seen."
His hand falls away from the piece and he sits back to observe it, teeth worrying at the corner of his lip until Gareth speaks up again. There's a distinct hesitation before he answers.
"You know Palmer's funeral and crematory? I'm gonna be apprenticing there started next week." He's just bracing for the inevitable assessment that it's grim and weird and morbid and every other thing he's heard.

Surrounded by the dead, sounds pretty creepy~" He grins, teasing tone slipping out on reflex as if he had been teasing Mike or Dustin. "Sorry...used to teasing my friends that are about your age."

Date: 2022-10-01 07:32 pm (UTC)He briefly looks disturbed. So goddamn much has happened in the last four years it's unreal. Having a growth spurt in the middle of all of it seemed like the absolute least of his worries.
He pulls a face at the tease, but he at least parses that it's not malicious. This guy doesn't seem like the type.
"You're a senior, right?" Only the seniors could look at him and say something like that.

Date: 2022-10-16 11:42 pm (UTC)Will sits back from the easel and surveys the work he's done, figuring he should probably slow down on it before he starts overworking it. He bends to wash out his paintbrush and start tidying up the immediate area so that he'd still be able to use the room again later.
"Hey, maybe I'll see you around. I'm usually here for when the physical therapy people get out to help a friend get home so I'll be here again."

Date: 2022-10-23 02:36 pm (UTC)"Maybe, I try to be here most days other than when we have our d&d games or band practice." He didn't seem to be cleaning anything up, like he was going to be there a while longer yet. He's sitting there a while longer before seeming to realize something.
"Oh! Uh...I'm Gareth by the way."
